Graduate Certificate in Pediatric Nutrition

A Pediatric Nutrition Certificate Program (online graduate/professional certificate program) is available from the Department of Dietetics & Nutrition, Robert Stempel College of Public Health & Social Work. 

Mission

To advance the nutrition and health of children and families by promoting innovation and excellence in pediatric nutrition education, research and civic engagement locally, nationally, and globally.

Admission Requirements

  1. Submit application according to your Enrollment Status.
  2. Student must have completed an undergraduate program with a strong science background. 
  3. Bachelor of Science in Dietetics and Nutrition or related fields, ex: Public Health are encouraged to apply.  
  4. Resume
  5. Letter of Intent
  6. 1 Recommendation letter (for non-FIU students only)
  7. Students not currently pursuing a degree at FIU, must submit Official Transcripts to the Office of Graduate Admissions
  8. For FIU and non-FIU students: do not submit any payments to the Dietetics and Nutrition Dept directly.

Applications are accepted from December 1 through June 1 annually for the Fall acceptance. The program follows a rolling admissions process such that qualified applicants will be accepted until the class is filled. Qualified applicants are encouraged to apply at the earliest possible time.

Application Period:        December 1 – June 1

Program starting date:   August each year – Program will start effective Fall 2016

Course Requirements

The Pediatric Nutrition Graduate Certificate Program is an online graduate/professional certificate program that consists of two (2) core courses plus at least three (3) additional specialty courses over an academic year (15 graduate credits, Fall, Spring, and Summer semesters).

Pediatric Nutrition Core (6 credits):

HUN 6415 (3 credits) Pediatric Nutrition (Fall)

HUN 6416 (3 credits) Advanced Pediatric Nutrition (Spring)

                                                                                                           

Pediatric Nutrition Specialty Courses (9 credits):

DIE 6285(3 credits) Pregnancy and Lactation (Fall)

DIE 6286 (3 credits) Pediatric Obesity (Spring)

DIE 6287 (3 credits) Pediatric Dysfunctional Eating (Summer)

HUN 6417 (3 credits) Nutrition for the High Risk Infant and Newborn in ICU (Summer)                                    

Individual Pediatric Nutrition courses can be taken as credits towards the Master’s degree in Dietetics and Nutrition. Once accepted into the Pediatric Nutrition Graduate Certificate Program, the credits will apply. 

Graduation Requirements

  1. Satisfy all University requirements for the Graduate Certificate in Pediatric Nutrition.  There is no graduation application for Graduate Certificates.
  2. Complete a minimum of 15 semester hours of graduate level coursework in approved program – this does not include pre-requisites.
  3. Earn a minimum overall GPA of 3.0 in all coursework completed.
  4. Resolve incomplete or in progress grades prior to Graduate Certificate completion.  Resolve failing grades of required coursework prior to completion of certificate.
  5. MANDATORY: Meet with Academic Advisor to assure completion of Certificate – it is the student’s responsibility to inform and meet with Advisor regarding Certificate Completion before the end of the semester in which Certificate will be earned.
