Graduate Certificate in Health Economics

list


The graduate certificate in Health Economics seeks to provide graduate level instruction in health economics to non–graduate degree practitioners. The graduate certificate requires the completion of 15 graduate credits. The certificate provides a suitable alternative for professionals in the field of Public Health looking to further their knowledge or advance their credentials. To complete the certificate, students will be required to maintain a 3.0 GPA in the following courses:

1. PHC 6102 Introduction to Public Health Policy and Management (3 credits)

This course is designed to provide students with a basic understanding of the healthcare system with emphasis on current health policy and management issues.

2. PHC 6065 Public Health Statistics (3 credits)

Covers the basic concepts and tools for non-biostatisticians, including descriptive statistics, confidence intervals, hypothesis testing, the basic statistical tests and data presentation.

3. PHC 5430 Public Health Economics (3 credits)

This course focuses on the application of basic microeconomics tools to the analysis of consumers’, producers’, and insurers’ behavior in the health care market.

4. PHC 6063C Health Policy Database Applications (3 credits)

This course focuses on data management and analysis tools needed for program evaluation. Students will analyze databases related to health policy research questions using statistical software packages including SPSS and SAS. Pre-requisite: PHC 6065

5. PHC 6436 Advanced Issues in Economic Evaluation of Health Care Programs (3 credits).

Economic evaluation issues including cost analysis, health outcomes, health state utilities, measurement of population health measures; cost-effectiveness, cost-benefit, and cost-utility analysis. Prerequisites: PHC 6065; PHC 5430.

The certificate program will not require a GRE.
