Dr. Bastida’s research focuses on health disparities, aging, religion, population and community health. She conducts NIH supported community based participatory research on Latino health. She led the 12-year Border Epidemiologic Study on Aging (NIH-BESA). Her teaching has received statewide and national recognition with two national role model awards for research mentoring of minority students. In 2009 she received the Public Health Hero Award from Research America. She works closely with Pan American Health and Latin American universities in advancing research and training throughout the region. She chairs the Jury for the Clarence H. Moore Pan American Health Award for Voluntary Service and the Research Committee on Population for the International Sociological Association.
