Dr. Marcia Magnus has been an associate professor in the Department of Dietetics & Nutrition at FIU since 1991. Formerly, she was a public health nutritionist for the United Nations’ (UN) Caribbean Food and Nutrition Institute, which offered technical assistance in nutrition to 21 Caribbean countries. As a UN consultant, she developed the Nutrition Plan of Action for Montserrat and the Bahamas. Her research specializes in nutrition advocacy, reading level of nutrition education materials, weight perception, and drug-nutrition interactions. She has conducted barbershop nutrition education for decades and has published widely in this area. Dr. Magnus has travelled to more than 50 countries, which provides the basis for her specialization in cross-cultural nutrition competence and cross-cultural nutrition education.
