Stempel Scholarship Application

The Ernest Stempel Foundation provides support to selected charities and organizations that focus on education, the environment, medical research and the disadvantaged. FIU Stempel College of Public Health & Social Work is honored to distribute this award which provides financial support to a Master in Public Health student annually.

The recipient receives a fixed stipend which may be applied towards University tuition, fees, books and supplies, housing/living expenses and travel. The recipient will be selected based on specific criteria and continuation of support will be determined based on the student's academic progress each semester.

Criteria

Applicants must:

  • Meet the minimum admission requirements for their respective Master in Public Health (MPH) program and have submitted a completed graduate admissions application at the time of Stempel Scholarship application.
  • Include a copy of most recent resume or CV.
  • Submit an essay as part of the Stempel Scholarship application.
  • Have a minimum of a 3.5 GPA (calculated from UG 60 or prior graduate degree). 

Recipients must:

  • Be fully admitted to the MPH program, maintain full-time enrollment status, and a 3.5 GPA throughout the term of the scholarship.
  • Complete a FAFSA form with the Office of Financial Aid.
  • Maintain regular communication with their faculty advisor who will serve to monitor the student’s progress in the program. 

Application Procedures 

  • Eligible applicants are asked to complete all portions of the application.

  • Submit a typed personal statement (double spaced, two-page maximum) which includes:
    1. The student’s practice/research interests and goals for a career in public health.
    2. How the scholarship’s financial assistance will help fulfill the student’s educational, personal and professional goals.

 

The application deadline is April 1, 2017.
