Emily Davenport (MPH ’17)

She chose Stempel after learning about its stellar faculty and its commitment to the Miami community
Emily started working for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in 2013. When she decided to get her MPH, Stempel College was the obvious choice for her. She chose Stempel after learning about its stellar faculty and its commitment to the Miami community. This commitment is unmistakable when looking at its strong partnerships with the Florida Department of Health, the surrounding hospitals and local non-profit organizations.

While still a student, she helped strengthen the relationship between FIU and CDC by sharing my experience with my fellow students, sitting on a fellowship panel and hiring CDC interns from FIU’s student body. Now that she’s a FIU alumna, she makes a point to keep in touch with her professors and hopes to inspire other young professionals as a guest speaker.

Emily says the MPH program gave her the flexibility and the freedom to bolster her education while working full-time for a federal agency. She incorporated her existing professional experience into her academic coursework, and in turn, took the skills she was learning in the classroom to her job every day.
