Biography

Eva D. Wales is a Registered Mental Health Counselor Intern in the State of Florida. Her professional career has been devoted to coordination and implementation of empirically-based treatments, often with underserved populations. She is experienced in the use of Motivational interviewing, Guided Self-Change, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and crisis counseling techniques with adolescent and adult clients from diverse ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds, and has conducted research and clinical work in outpatient, community, and school-based settings. She is also experienced in teaching mindfulness meditation strategies to youth and young adults. Eva is a substance abuse counselor for a brief intervention program for FIU students in collaboration with FIU’s Counseling and Psychological Services Center. In the past, she served as the lead group facilitator for a school-based NIH-funded alcohol prevention program in which she implemented a manualized Motivational Interviewing treatment protocol in Miami-Dade County Public Schools. She has also served as a group facilitator for the Motivational Interviewing clinical training curriculum at the Florida International University Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine.
