Graduate Student Week: Scholarly Forum Winners
During Graduate Student Appreciation Week, Florida International University recognized graduate students from all areas and disciplines for their hard work and dedication. Participating graduate students presented their research studies in the Scholarly Forum, where they competed for cash prizes through oral and poster presentations.
The students were rated by faculty judges from across the university. Of more than 80 presentations, 14 of them were created by Stempel College graduate students representing the Department of Dietetics and Nutrition, the School of Public Health and the School of Social Work. Five students received awards for their presentations:
- Chintan Bhatt (HPDP): First place; Oral
- Derrick J. Forney (HPDP): First place; Poster
- Rumi Agarwal (HPDP): Third place; Oral (not pictured)
- Michelle Thompson (SW): Third place; Oral
- Christian Perez (EHS): Third place; Poster
Additionally, Mitra Naseh, a doctoral candidate in the Social Welfare program, received the Provost’s Award for Outstanding Creative Project, which recognizes the creative and innovative aspects of her research. Her Sheltering Survivors exhibition at the Coral Gables Museum sheds a light on the plight of millions of forcibly displaced persons across the Middle East.
