My name is Jeanna Laurent. I am a Haitian-American, born and raised in Miami. I am currently pursuing my MPH in the Department of Health Promotion and Disease Prevention with a focus on Maternal and Child Health. As a first-generation college student, I know firsthand the challenges that many students like me may face. FIU has been a big part of how I learned to overcome many of these challenges—both as an undergraduate student and now as a graduate student. HPDP allowed me to pursue my passion for community-based work and gain the knowledge necessary to understand health on a population level. All of which, I hope to incorporate within my future career in the public health field. Applying to Stempel College was one of the best decisions I have ever made; it allowed me to grow not only as a student but as a person as well.
