Rumi Agarwal (MPH ’17)

Rumi has a profound interest in improving the lives of families in South Florida
From the moment she arrived at Stempel College in 2015, Rumi stood out because of her academic excellence—she was awarded the Path Merit Scholarship and graduated with an impressive 3.94 GPA! Beyond being a good student, Rumi demonstrates integrity, passion and a strong sense of service to others, which are all essential qualities of a public health leader. Rumi has a profound interest in improving the lives of families in South Florida and she has amassed am impressive amount of service to the University and surrounding communities. She is an active volunteer with March of Dimes, the Miami Children’s Initiative, and Special Olympics.  As a founding executive board member of the Leaders in Maternal & Child Health student group, she paved the way for other FIU students interested in service and a public health career benefitting women, children, and families. Rumi was accepted into the doctoral program in Stempel College’s Department of Health Promotion & Disease Prevention and is currently pursuing her Ph.D. with us. She looks forward to pursing a research career focused on helping mothers and children in high-risk communities.
