We are proud to offer a variety of certificates at the undergraduate and graduate levels, allowing students to further specialize within the degrees they are seeking.

Certificate in Child Welfare Service (BSSW only)

Certificate in Child Welfare Services (BSSW only)

The Certificate in Child Welfare Practice provides BSSW students with the specialized skills, knowledge, and practice competencies in order to carry out services for the care and protection of children. Students will be prepared to meet the critical service needs of Florida’s children and families.

Application

This certificate program is open to students admitted into the BSSW program only. 

Prospective certificate students must:

  • Be admitted into the BSSW program

Course Requirements:

In order to obtain the certificate, students must earn a total of 24 credits towards the certificate, completing the following courses with a “C” or higher:

  • SOW 4658 Interventions in Child Maltreatments
  • SOW 4654 Child Welfare: Policy and Practice
  • SOW 4511L Field Practicum I (in a Child Welfare Setting)
  • SOW 4512L Field Practicum II (in a Child Welfare Setting)
  • SOW 4522 Field Seminar I
  • SOW 4523 Field Seminar II

Graduate Certificate in Social Work Practice with the Elderly (MSW only)

Graduate Certificate in Social Work Practice with the Elderly

(MSW Only) 

This 15-credit graduate certificate provides specialized advanced clinical training for social work students working with elderly populations. This certificate program is open to degree-seeking students only.

Graduate Certificate in Management in Social Work (MSW only)

Graduate Certificate in Management in Social Work (MSW Only) 

 

This certificate is currently inactive.

This 15-credit graduate certificate provides specialized management training for social work students and professionals planning to enter or work in managerial positions in the social work field. Courses do not meet elective requirements for the MSW clinical program. All certificate students are required to take the three required courses, as well as the two from the approved list. This certificate program is open to degree-seeking students only.

The Graduate Certificate in Child Welfare (GCCW) provides specialized training in child welfare services. Students who are awarded the GCCW will be prepared to work with abused and neglected children, their families and the social service organizations that serve them. A total of 18 graduate credits are required for this certificate. This certificate is open to degree-seeking students only.

Graduate Certificate in Addictions (MSW Only) 

This 30-credit graduate certificate provides specialized advanced clinical training for social work students interested in working in the addictions field. It meets all the classroom educational requirements laid out by the State of Florida for certification through the Florida Certification Board. This certificate program is open to degree-seeking students only.

Post-MSW Certificate in Clinical Practice

Post-MSW Certificate in Clinical Practice

This certificate program is designed for MSW practitioners who specialized in macro/administrative or generalist practice and wish to increase their knowledge and skills in direct services/clinical practice. In most cases, MSW practitioners completing this certificate will have the requisite MSW coursework for clinical licensure in the state of Florida.

Admissions

  • Applicants must satisfy all minimum requirements as specified by the University Graduate School for admission into Graduate Programs. In addition, the applicant must have earned a Master’s of Social Work degree with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.
  • Applicants must submit a Graduate Certificate Program Application, which must be reviewed and approved by the School of Social Work.
