- What would an MPH in Global Health prepare me for?
An MPH in Global Health will give you valuable knowledge and skills for approaching complex health issues that affect the U.S. and other global regions, such as chronic diseases, mental health and planetary health consequences. Global Health, importantly, also aims to leverage global scientific learning (e.g., effective health policies, innovations or strategies in other settings) to inform local health solutions in the U.S. Additionally, given an interdisciplinary program, our MPH in Global Health graduates can pursue a broad range of career options such as those within academia or research institutions (e.g., universities), program management or implementation within public organizations (e.g., health departments), public health foundations (e.g., national and global NGOs), and multinational health or pharmaceutical companies with global operations.

Application Process and Admissions
- What are the requirements to apply for the MPH in Global Health?
To apply for the regular MPH in Global Health, you must have a bachelor's degree or equivalent* from an accredited college or university, or in the case of foreign students, an accredited institution recognized in its own country as preparing students for further study at the graduate level.
You must have a minimum of a 3.0 Grade Point Average (GPA) on a 4.0 scale. This GPA is calculated using the last 60 credits of undergraduate upper-division hours. - Are there any funding opportunities?

Fall Application deadlines: February 15 for International Applicants and June 1 for domestic applicants (US passport holders / permanent US residents).

- What is SOPHAS?
SOPHAS is the centralized application service for schools and programs of public health. It stands for Schools of Public Health Application Service and it is a centralized application for public health programs. It aims to simplify the application process for students applying to multiple public health schools and programs.

- I am an international student, can I apply?
Yes, you need to complete the same SOPHAS application. You will have to submit a course-by-course WES evaluation of your transcripts (if you studied outside of the US) and a Proof of English language proficiency. - How many credits do I have to take in a semester?
If you are an international student, you need to make sure that you comply with your visa requirements. During Fall and Spring, students need to be enrolled full time, 9 credits—a minimum of 6 need to be in person. International students can check their enrollment requirements by visiting the Office of International Student & Scholar Services website.
If you are a domestic student, you can choose how many credits you take per semester. Make sure you meet with the graduate program director to get proper advising as to what courses to register for.
- How long can I defer enrollment to the MPH in Global Health once I am admitted?
You may defer your enrollment for up to 1 year.
- What is the practicum in public health, and when should I take it?
The practicum consists of a minimum of 200 hours in an approved public health setting, under the guidance of a qualified preceptor. The purpose of the practicum is to provide MPH students with an opportunity to apply public health academic theory and acquired skills to community health problems. Thus, the practicum is conducted towards the end of the MPH students' program, when at least 30 credits (including the five core courses) have been completed.
Eligibility to begin the practicum is determined by the practicum coordinator. Students should meet with the practicum coordinator at least two semesters prior to enrolling in the Practicum in Public Health course. Each student is required to complete PHC 6945-Practicum in Public Health (3 credits) and they will enroll in PHC 6930C Integrative seminar in Public Health (3 credits)
- What is the practicum preparation course?
The practicum preparation course is a 0-credit course designed to provide students with information about the practicum, its procedure and timeline. Students will receive an overview of the practicum experience and its requirements.
- How long does it take to graduate?
That will depend on the number of credits you are registered for per semester. If you register full time, you can finish your program in five semesters.
- Can I take online courses?
Yes, there are some courses that are offered online. If you are an international student, you need to comply with the visa requirement of at least six (6) credits in person each fall and spring semester.
