Biography

Dr. Sunwoo Han is an assistant professor in the Department of Biostatistics at Florida International University (FIU), with a joint appointment as a voluntary assistant professor in the Department of Public Health Sciences at the University of Miami (UM). Prior to joining FIU, he was a post-doctoral research fellow at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center (2020-2022) and subsequently served as an assistant scientist and later associate scientist at the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center at UM (2022-2025). Dr. Han earned his Ph.D. in Applied Statistics from Yonsei University, South Korea, in 2020, where his doctoral dissertation was recognized with the Best Ph.D. Thesis Award from The Korean Statistical Society in 2021.

Dr. Han’s research is centered on addressing statistical challenges in biomedical studies by advancing statistical and machine learning methodologies, with a particular emphasis on ensemble learning, deep learning, predictive modeling, and their applications in cancer and infectious disease research. As an active and collaborative biostatistician, he works closely with principal investigators, clinicians, and interdisciplinary research teams, providing critical biostatistical expertise across a broad range of studies involving solid tumors, hematologic malignancies, and infectious diseases.
