What to expect at October’s virtual COVID-19 Summit co-hosted by Stempel College’s Global Health Consortium

The last and final virtual event as part of the COVID-19 Vaccines: A Global Experts’ Summit is set to take place virtually on October 7, 2021, from 9:45 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Registration for the event is now open .

“Vaccines are the best mechanism to prevent people from experiencing complications from this deadly virus,” said Dr. Carlos Espinal, Director of the Global Health Consortium at the Robert Stempel College of Public Health & Social Work. “Our goal of this final event is to reinforce key messages around the value of vaccination programs and share accurate information on vaccine safety and vaccine efficacy.” Dr. Espinal adds that with the threat of the Delta variant and potential new variants, reinforcing these key messages are our best bet in combating the vaccine misinformation and disinformation we are seeing play out in the U.S. and abroad.

Part III of the COVID-19 Vaccines: A Global Experts’ Summit is free to attend and is hosted by Florida International University’s Office of the President in collaboration with the Global Health Consortium at Stempel College, in partnership with the Pan American Health Organization and the National School of Tropical Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine.

“Leading experts will present scientific evidence around vaccine efficacy, vaccine implementation, and how this all has impacted communities worldwide,” said Dr. Espinal. “We are going to explore what 2022 and beyond could look like and tackle many of the uncertainties we are facing today.”

The Summit kicked off at the beginning of the year with its first event which brought together leading experts from across the globe to discuss and strategize a path forward in the pandemic’s response. The second event took place in June, and thousands of people tuned in to hear from researchers and public health experts from Florida International University, the World Health Organization, Baylor College of Medicine, UNICEF, and many more.
