For the third consecutive year, the FIU Robert Stempel College of Public Health & Social Work ranks among the top 15 public schools of public health receiving National Institutes of Health (NIH) funding, according to the 2024 Blue Ridge Institute for Medical Research (BRIMR) rankings.

In FY 2024, FIU Stempel College received more than $15.2 million in NIH grants, helping it maintain the No. 2 spot for NIH funding among Florida schools of public health. Nationwide, the college ranks No. 15 among public schools of public health and No. 24 overall. This year, BRIMR ranked 71 schools of public health from over 200 schools and programs nationwide.

At FIU Stempel College, funding from the NIH supports a wide range of research projects aimed at addressing challenges affecting the health and wellbeing of communities. NIH-funded researchers at the college are studying areas like substance abuse, mental health, neurodegenerative disorders, cardiovascular disease, HIV/AIDS, and many others.

Since 2006, BRIMR, an independent nonprofit organization, has published rankings of institutions, departments, and investigators based on the funding that they receive from the NIH after the federal fiscal year closes.

FIU Stempel College was first ranked by BRIMR in 2016, securing the No. 21 spot among public schools of public health, and 33 overall.
