FIU's Robert Stempel College of Public Health & Social Work now ranks No. 12 among public schools of public health in National Institutes of Health (NIH) funding, climbing three spots in the 2023 Blue Ridge Institute for Medical Research (BRIMR) rankings.
Amongst private and public universities, Stempel College now ranks No. 21 out of 68 schools nationwide (up from No. 25) and continues to hold its No. 2 spot in Florida.
BRIMR is an independent nonprofit organization that publishes rankings of institutions, departments and investigators based on the funding received from the NIH. The BRIMR rankings reported are for fiscal 2023.
“The upward trend in NIH funding is a reflection of the commitment and dedication of our faculty, staff, and students involved in the amazing research performed at Stempel College to improving health outcomes for our communities,” said Tomás R. Guilarte, dean of Stempel College. “It’s through this collective effort that we will help advance research and push the boundaries of knowledge for the greater good.”
NIH funding has helped Stempel College faculty and staff power research in various cross-disciplinary fields like neurological diseases, cancer, dietetics and nutrition, health disparities, substance use disorders, addiction, HIV/AIDS, and cardiovascular disease.
