Bachelor Degree in Dietetics & Nutrition – Nutrition Science

The nutrition science track emphasizes the basic sciences—biology and chemistry—and uses this foundation to build up to the nutrition science core curriculum. Students explore optimal health, disease states, human physiology, metabolism, as well as the complex relationship between nutrients/non-nutrients in foods. This concentration was developed for students seeking a bachelor’s degree (BS) to enter pre-professional programs after graduating (E.g., medical/dental, occupational therapy, physical therapy, pharmacy, physician assistant, registered nurse or allied health sciences). However, this track does not lead to a Verification Statement, which is the case with the Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD).

*All Labs MUST be taken with the corresponding lecture if required. ** Classes are primarily taught this semester; alternative semesters may be available.

Please note that successful completion of this track does not award the student a Verification Statement, confirming eligibility for an accredited Dietetic Internship. Verification Statements are only awarded to students in the Didactic track. The Nutrition science track is intended for students who wish to pursue careers in nutrition sciences, medical/dental sciences or allied health sciences after graduation.

For DIE 3244 & DIE 4246: Even though the lab is not required, the student must enroll in both the lecture and lab to guarantee a spot in the course and then contact the department to drop the lab before the add/drop deadline (see University Calendar). This is the student’s responsibility. The department contact is Ginelle Bou Nassar, Program Assistant, gbounass@fiu.edu. Please email with your name, panther ID number, course AND section number (U0X) that you wish to drop, and allow up to 48 hours for a response.

Permissions: For permissions into DIE 3310, HUN 4404, and HUN 4240 because the system is not recognizing your prerequisites, please email Ginelle Bou Nassar, Program Assistant, gbounass@fiu.edu, with your name, panther ID number, course, AND section number (U0X). Please allow up to 48 hours for a response.

Graduation requirements
